From labourer to installer and supervisor

I started as a roofing labourer and worked my way up to installing several metal roofing, single-ply, liquid-applied and cladding systems. I later became a site supervisor and achieved a Level 3 NVQ in Occupational Work Supervision.

That practical background matters to how I approach a method statement: understanding the work, the sequence and the site arrangements, rather than treating a roofing project as a generic construction task.

Estimating, contracts and running roofing businesses

My experience includes five years as an estimator and contracts manager within a flat-roofing company, and ten years running my own roofing businesses.

Those responsibilities included company policies, pricing and managing contracts. We often acted as principal contractor on large, high-risk projects for high-profile main contractors and clients. As part of that role, I organised our responsibilities under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.

I’ve also worked on and managed several asbestos-removal projects.

I’m currently studying towards the NEBOSH Health and Safety Management for Construction qualification.
